Subjunctive ใน GMAT จะไม่ได้เห็นบ่อยนัก แต่ผู้สอบก็จำเป็นที่จะต้องรู้จักและใช้ให้เป็น
ลักษณะของ subjunctive คือ
1. N1 + verb* + that + N2 + v.base
suggest, advise, ask, command, demand, desire, insist, order, prefer, propose, recommend, request
v.base คือ v พื้นฐาน (v.1 แบบไม่เติม -s, -es และ be สำหรับ verb to be)
I suggest that you be on time. (จะเห็น้ว่าใช้ be ไม่ใช่ are)
ฉันแนะนำให้คุณตรงเวลา
The teacher desire that his student finish his homework. (ใช้ finish ไม่ใช่ finishes)
ครูหวังว่านักเรียนของเขาจะทำการบ้านเสร็จ
She ordered that I close the store at 7pm today.
เธอสั่งให้ฉันปิดร้านเวลาหนึ่งทุ่มวันนี้
นอกจาก verb แล้ว คำนามหลายๆคำที่สื่อถึงคำสั่ง คำแนะนำ ยังสามารถใช้ subjunctive ได้ด้วย เช่น
command, demand, order, proposal, recommendation, request, suggestion
John made the order that his daughter pass the exam.
จอห์นได้มีคำสั่งว่าลูกสาวของเขาสอบผ่าน
The CEO made the recommendation that Tom accept the proposal.
CEO ได้มีคำแนะนำว่า Tom ยอมรับข้อเสนอนั้น
